“Daddy Bruce” Randolph was born in Arkansas in 1900. Cotton-picker, water boy, bootlegger and bill collector among other things, he eventually migrated to Denver and opened his famous Daddy Bruce’s Bar-B-Q in 1963 on the corner of Gilpin Street and East 34th Avenue.
He began feeding the hungry in the late 1960s, setting up a portable grill at City Park and serving a Thanksgiving meal for 200 people his first year. Bruce died penniless in 1994, his funeral paid for by donations from a grateful community. The Epworth Foundation continues his tradition and could use your help.
