Grab a shovel

shoveling snow

Being from the South and being a renter, I had no idea until recently that homeowners – not the city of Denver – were responsible for shoveling their sidewalks. And maybe the 2,000 people who have received orders to maintain their sidewalks since October didn’t know either.

According to The Denver Post, of the 2,000 orders, 150 people have received $150 fines. Residences have 24 hours to shovel their public sidewalks, while businesses have just four hours.

According to Denver law, sidewalks are the responsibility of the adjoining property owners as it’s the only practical way to keep them accessible.
