Paper fit for a feast

At Thanksgiving, durable paper plates can prevent a holiday disaster. Paper engineer Paul Carter of Huhtamaki, makers of Chinet, tells TE100 that fibers are the foundation of a strong paper plate.

“It’s about aesthetics first, because you want a plate that looks good,” he said. “But Chinet is known for strength, which comes from its fibers and using a 3D mold versus a 2D stamp.”

Only eight American universities offer a paper engineering degree, but each has 100% job placement for graduates. This November, give thanks for engineers who studied pulp chemistry to perfect the plate safely holding your feast.
