A recent poll conducted by Colorado College shows Coloradans love their public lands, with 90 percent of residents saying the state’s monuments are worthy of protection.
It seems that residents are part of a larger trend toward conservation, exhibited in the eight western states surveyed by the poll. Across those states, which tend to see high concentrations of public land, 75 percent of those who took the survey identified themselves as conservationists, compared to 60 percent in 2016.
Walt Hecox, founder of the Colorado College State of the Rockies poll, believes Colorado’s natural wonders are indispensable to the state’s economy.
