Avoiding Costly Construction Defects

by

Did you ever want a do-over? We all make mistakes, but construction defects can be particularly costly. Defects are generally related to poor design, workmanship or faulty building materials.

Start by hiring a reputable contractor and checking references. Once construction is started, regularly inspect construction activities; from the beginning before mistakes can be covered up, in the middle when things are taking shape, and after completion. Open all doors and windows, and turn on faucets and lights.

Voice your concerns early! Consider hiring a professional inspector. Caution on the front end can prevent serious misunderstandings or lawsuits after completion.
