Global Livingston Institute Tackles Poverty in East Africa

by Michael Polzella

Listen. Think. Act. Those three words are at the heart of every action taken by the Global Livingston Institute as it combats poverty in East Africa. The mission is not to “fix Africa” but rather understand local needs while leveraging the experience volunteer members have as they work to create the job and education opportunities needed most.

The Global Livingston Institute was founded by Colorado native Jamie Van Leeuwen. Thanks to his experience with Urban Peak and studies in Ghana, Van Leeuwen got a taste of the complex social issues in the world. His program aims to tackle those issues.
