Araphoe Basin Ski Area took home one of the highest achievements in the culinary world (literally) when it was named the highest restaurant in America. Il Rifugio, meaning “the shelter,” snatched the title from Telluride’s Alpino Vino when it opened at 12,456 feet above sea level.
The European-style bistro is only accessible by chairlifts, making the trip impossible for pedestrians. The restaurant also features no running water, so snowcats haul gallons of water up and down each week.
While overlooking the Continental Divide, diners can indulge in charcuterie boards, crab and corn chowder, espresso drinks, flatbreads and more.
