Activism – Nothing New

Activists march in Denver

Throughout history, activism has appeared in many different forms. Although many associate activism with marches nowadays, one of the most influential protests in history was Martin Luther’s 95 Theses in 1517, which led to the Protestant Reformation.

The American Revolution made use of physical means with the Boston Tea Party, while the French Revolution was downright violent with the storming of Bastille. Brutal responses to peaceful protests in the American civil rights movement were matched by the Tiananmen Square protests, where hundreds of protesters were killed.

Protests now catch fire with social media, like the Arab Spring in 2011 demonstrated.
