Ever wondered where the dreaded parking boot was created?
This popular traffic enforcement measure has a Denver native to thank. Frank Muragg, a concert violinist, invented the parking boot in 1944 as a solution to the ever-present parking problem in the city.
He discovered the issue in conversation with his politician friends. A creative at heart, he went home and designed a wheel clamp that would enforce traffic rules without needing to tow the cars to a pound.
14 years later, Marugg patented his “auto immobilizer.” It was originally made out of steel – becoming aluminum when it hit the mainstream.
