Hanging Lake has already received more than 6,100 permit reservation requests since opening just two weeks ago. The extremely popular hiking destination in northern Colorado requires a permit starting May 1. Permitting began after the natural landmark underwent rapid degradation due to the high amount of foot traffic.
The stunning Hanging Lake in the heart of Glenwood Canyon was formed by a geologic fault, which caused the lake bed to drop away from the valley floor above.
Another change this summer is that no parking will be allowed at the trailhead. Instead, visitors will shuttle from the welcome center.
