A recent question from my soon-to-be 17-year-old revealed a hole in what I had believed were water-tight (and well-articulated) household expectations.
“What’s your position on boy-girl sleepovers,” she asked nonchalantly as we stuffed braised pork into corn tortillas for dinner.
After lifting my jaw off the counter, I set to work explaining my stance (that’s a hard no for this mama, in the foreseeable – and distant – future) and reevaluating my role:
