In the U.S., we can thank the Pennsylvania Dutch for introducing this tasty snack treat to the masses. Hard pretzels originated in the U.S. in 1850.
Today, pretzels are regular party and sporting event staples. U.S. citizens consume about two pounds of pretzels annually. You can add to the more than 3.6 million pounds of pretzels made each year by baking your own.
